"Come Jesus Come"
In the face of violence and tragedy, Nigerian Christians sing about the hope of Jesus.
“Come, Jesus, come./We’ve been waiting so long/for the day You return/to heal every hurt/and right every wrong./We need You right now.”
Those are the lyrics to Gospel singer CeCe Winans’ “Come Jesus Come.”
That same prayer is echoed by persecuted Christians across the world, waiting for the promised hope of Christ.
Some brothers and sisters from Nigeria, No. 7 on the Open Doors World Watch List of the most dangerous places to follow Jesus, recently recorded a powerful rendition of the song. In Nigeria, thousands of Christians have been killed in recent years for simply being Christians—the full weight of “every hurt” has been felt by so many.
The song was recorded by a group of singers from different churches. It was recorded two weeks after an attack on Christians around Easter—a curfew was still in place at the time of recording.

Against that backdrop, the lyrics became more than a worship song. They became a heartfelt prayer.
As these Nigerian believers lift their voices together, their performance reflects both the challenges many Christians face and the hope that sustains them. Their rendition of "Come Jesus Come" is a reminder that even in times of uncertainty, God’s hope and love continue to sustain.
